Pen and brown ink drawing on wove paper, face of young man sleeping, drawn and signed by artist Jean Cocteau (French, 1889-1963). Measures 10-3/4 x 8-1/2 inches. Provenance: Acquired by the former owner from Charles Hathaway and his partner Hubert de Saint Senoch (1913-1983), Paris, sometime after 1965. Bequeathed thereafter to the next owner, circa 1995. Hubert de Saint Senoch was an important French collector (see, for example, Sotheby's sales 1983 and 1992) and presumably acquired the drawing directly from the artist, who was a mutual friend of both Saint Senoch and the former owner. Sold at Dallas auction in 2019 to current owner. This item can be shipped in-house.
