Description
Two dozen 1960s original comic art pieces, each measuring about 15" x 10", by Luis Wilson Valera (Cuban, 1930-2006). From his most popular series, "Las Criollitas." Bio from Labiek Comiclopedia: Luis Felipe Wilson Valera was a political cartoonist and comic artist from Guantanamo, Cuba. He worked for Editorial Zig Zag before Fidel Castro's revolutionary government came to power in 1959 ... mainly published his work in Palante during his 40-year career. His best known creation is 'Las Criollitas', his award-winning cartoon series about Cuban women ..." Cubaencuentro lauded the artist upon his passing (translated from Spanish): Representative of a Cuban woman on the path to emancipation -- voluptuous, energetic and curvy -- the "Wilson criollitas," which appeared in 1962, became emblematic characters of the press and daily life on the Island. A contributor to dozens of Cuban and foreign publications, author of several cartoon books, Wilson received more than 40 awards in Cuban and international competitions."
