Description
One of Babe Ruth's earliest endorsements was for Babe Ruth All-American Underwear. In 1927, this famous photo of a young Bambino was taken by Sussman and used to advertise his underwear line. Measures 8x10. Provenance: From the estate of Jimmy Donohue, owner of Donohue's Restaurant in Mountain View, N.J. Donohue became friends with Ruth in the 1920s and remained close with him until Ruth's death. Several items in today's sale came from this same estate. See lots 40 and 41 for baseballs signed by Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Jimmie Foxx, as well as Mel Ott. This item can be shipped in-house.
Condition
See images. Very nice condition for a century-old photograph. Some spots here and there, a couple of lines in the emulsion across Ruth's shirt, a fainter one across his right cheek. A shallow wrinkle on Ruth's right shoulder, barely visible without raking light.
