Description
Outstanding piece of political (and sports) history: An authentic, original doodle with words by John F. Kennedy as president, on Air Force One stationery. JFK was a prolific doodler, while some of his sketches have found their way to the market, few have been as interesting as this one. Across the center he's written "Floyd Patterson" and "Must win!" with an arrow pointing to the boxer's name. Under that is "Sept 25 vs Liston." Patterson had visited the White House on January 12, 1962, and both JFK and his brother, Robert, famously advised him not to fight Liston. Liston was purported to have had ties to organized crime, and the Kennedys were battling the mob at the time, so Kennedy's "Must Win" sentiment is noteworthy. (The bout occurred on that date in 1962. Patterson lost.) Below the writing, Kennedy has sketched three sailboats, as well as geometric shapes. Paper measures 7-1/8" x 4-3/8". Unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic. Provenance: From the personal political papers of Congressman Michael J. Kirwan, personal friend of JFK's. Authentication further confirmed by Evelyn Lincoln, JFK's late secretary. Letter of authenticity written and signed by presidential historian, John Burke Jovich. This item can be shipped in-house.
