Description
Painting of reclining nude female, a 1940s oil on canvas by Dietz Edzard (German, 1893-1963). Sight size about 28" x 39" in 32" x 43" frame. Unsigned. Provenance: Obtained from the artist's grandson by his first wife, Emmy Bayer (who was the granddaughter of Friedrich Bayer, founder of the Bayer Co.). Unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic. Lot 4 is a signed study of this painting. Biography: Much is still unknown about Dietz Edzard, despite the vast number of auction records for his work (more than 1,100 on Artnet alone). Some of his more interesting works have never left the possession of his descendants, including the drawings for the stained glass window he created for the old Bayer building ("Das Friedrich Bayer Fenster") in Leverkusen, Germany (see Lot 13).
