Description
Original sketch study for the Friedrich Bayer window, a large stained glass installation created by Dietz Edzard (German, 1893-1963). The window still exists in the old Bayer headquarters building in Leverkusen, Germany (see image). Sketch is unframed. Measures about 40" x 10". Photos of the window are from the book, "Das Friedrich Bayer Fenster," published circa 1920s. The book includes an essay about the window by the Weimar Republic's Reichskunstwart ("Imperial Art Protector") Edwin Redslob. Provenance: Obtained from the artist's grandson by his first wife, Emmy Bayer (who was the granddaughter of Friedrich Bayer, founder of the Bayer Co.). Unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic. Biography: Much is still unknown about Dietz Edzard, despite the vast number of auction records for his work (more than 1,100 on Artnet alone). Some of his more interesting works have never left the possession of his descendants, such as this piece. This item can be shipped in-house.
