Description
1875 document signed by Ulysses S. Grant (18th U.S. president). Document is the appointment of a Kansas Postmaster, Charles Phillips (who later went into business with a man who left the partnership to exhibit Billy the Kid's finger). Also signed by James Marshall, Postmaster General, a colorful character in his own right. Measures 12-1/2" x 16-3/4". This document is one of several dozen important signed pieces in today's sale that were part of a large collection of American historical documents from 1650 through WWII. The estate collection, assembled from about 1920-1960, has never been offered for sale at auction. This item can be shipped in-house.
