Description
French and Indian War era powder horn, dated 1759, likely as not used during the Revolutionary War as well. Engraving reads, "STEPHEN (?) SCOFIELD HIS HORN AUGUST 1759." There is a mention on a genealogy website (www.suzzgenpage.com/american-revolution-patriots-sa-sz/) of a Stephen Scofield who "received a bounty of six pounds, five pence and four pennies, in British money, from the State of Connecticut ... because of his courage in the War for American Independence." But no additional information has been found online. Horn is engraved with assorted designs, including what appear to be fortifications and stockade fencing, as well as what could be ship hulls. Excellent wear pattern. Overall length 16". This item can be shipped in-house.
