Highly detailed miniature of the Steam Fire Engine "Fred Gund" by Fred Schuessler. "Fred Gund" is from Chicago Engine Company 14 circa 19th century and was involved in fighting The Great Chicago Fire. Wood and metal with hand painted accents. Model measures approximately 18" long in a case measuring 21" long. Signed with metal name plate. Schuessler was a shop foreman who began building scale models for his son, eventually building exacting replicas of cars, trains, fire engines, ships and even stage coaches (one of which is also on offer in this auction). His son carved the people to populate the scenes while his wife sewed the upholstery. This item will need to be shipped by a packing company of your choice.
