Description
Original advertising card for Giant's Fishing Camp in Gibsonton, Florida, circa mid-1940s. This exact item appeared in the American Pickers episode, Freaky Florida (Season 20, Episode 19) -- see image below. Gibsonton became known as the "Sideshow Capital of the World" in the 1920s, as it was home to nearly 140 circus entertainers known as "human oddities," such as the Alligator-Skinned Man, Monkey Girl and the Gibsonton Giant himself, Al Tomaini, who stood nearly 7-1/2 feet tall. (His wife, Jeanie, was named "The Living Half Girl." Born without legs, she stood under 2-1/2 feet tall. They appeared as the circus attraction, "The Strangest Married Couple in the World.") This Day Glo advertising card measures about 4-1/4" x 18", framed to 10-1/4" x 22-1/4". Provenance: From the estate collection of James Sigler (1954-2022), a third-generation circus banner artist and collector. This item will need to be shipped by a packing company of your choice.
