Original watercolor and pencil painting by Sandra Faye Oppegard (American, b. 1941), depicting Vindication, the 2002 Breeder's Cup Juvenile champion thoroughbred that was sired by the legendary Seattle Slew. After winning that major race by almost three lengths, Vindication was heavily favored to win the following year's Kentucky Derby, but was injured and unable to compete any further.
