Rare 1938 TLS on letterhead by New York Yankees owner and businessman, Jacob Ruppert (1867-1939). Ruppert is best known for purchasing Babe Ruth's contract and building Yankee Stadium. He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012. This letter, measuring 7-1/2" x 7-1/4" folded, was written (exactly three months prior to his death) to NJ restaurateur James Donohue, a close friend of Babe Ruth's. Ruppert expresses some keen interest in meeting with Donohue in person -- the reason is unknown -- but Ruppert was, by this time, confined to his home with his illness. Provenance: From the estate of Jimmy Donohue, owner of Donohue's Restaurant in Mountain View, N.J. Donohue became friends with Ruth in the 1920s and remained close with him until Ruth's death.
